Why I Value God

I suppose what I most value about God is that he can be trusted. Like in any relationship, the fact that you can trust that person speaks volumes, doesn’t it? With God, the importance of that is magnified.

I can go to God with the issues absolutely, urgently, most important to me. And he can be trusted. It’s not just a promise from him. I’ve seen him act, countless times. He has proven himself trustworthy to me.

Secondly, the intricacies of creation astound me. I appreciate that he surrounded us with evidence of his care for us and his competency. Our own bodies, our central nervous system, skeletal structure, eyes, brain. The variety of animals and variances within a species. The multitude of sea life, birds. The various forms of water on earth, vegetation, stars &  clouds. Its beauty, the way it all works~~amazes me.

I value God’s tender love. One day I went to the Bible feeling I have too much to do. But in my typical sense of high-responsibility I told God, “Just tell me what to do, and I’ll do it.”

He led me to a place in the gospels where Jesus says to a blind person, “What would you have me do for you?” So, God flipped this around on me. He said to me, "What would you have ME do for YOU?" I made a list. And it was incredibly refreshing to ask him!

Or, another time, I was feeling distant from God. I went to the Bible expecting to do a review of God’s character & personality. (Thinking, that would help me feel close to him again.) And instead, I read in Psalms 139, about how well God knows me. And I thought, “How smart of him. When we realize how well someone know us, that’s when we feel intimate with them.” That he knows me, is a very secure feeling, because I also know he loves me.

Lastly, I’m glad God is so gracious. I’m glad it’s not our performance that gains us acceptance with him. But that our right standing with God comes from God himself… “This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.” (Rom 3:22)
