 Questions About Life and God

Why I Value God

Despite all the warnings from the locals and with foolish self-confidence, we walked down a narrow path, deeper into the jungle. Villagers from that area of the Ivory Coast had told us to stay on the path that paralleled the main road, but we wanted to take a shortcut through the jungle. After a while we were completely lost and disoriented, we couldn't go forward or backtrack. Anxiety began to grow. We were lost in the middle of an African jungle. We had left our car beside a random path. What if our things - or even the car itself - were stolen? All of a sudden I felt hundreds of stinging pricks on my body. We had walked through an ant hill and now the ants were crawling all over us too. What about snakes? Fear quickly turned into panic. Darkness was setting in we were on our own in the jungle! But we were not completely alone: we had our faith in God. We knew that He loved us and was able to lead us out of the mess we had gotten ourselves into. We prayed and asked for help, and He heard our prayer. After wandering around for two hours we finally came to a path that took us back to our car.

In Psalm 50, verse 15 Jesus says: "Call on me when you are in trouble; I will rescue you, and you will honor me."
