 Questions About Life and God

Why I Value God

I'm going to take a shot at telling you what I like about God.

I greatly appreciate how faithful God is. He can be counted on. God is more faithful toward me, than I will ever be toward him. He is steady, unchanging. What he promises, he holds to.

For example, Jesus said, "He who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

In situations of darkness, when I've asked God for guidance, for clarity in a situation, he has given me that direction. He has led. As I've had questions and go to the Bible, he speaks to me. God is not so invisible. He is real. He communicates.

As David said in Psalms, "Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you."

I also deeply value God's tender, personal love. Here's an example.

One time, I went to the Bible feeling I had way too much to do, but in my typical sense of high-responsibility I told God, "Just tell me what to do, and I'll do it." And he led me to a place in the gospels where Jesus asks a blind person, "What would you have me do for you?" He's like that. He reminds us that he's God and welcomes us to rely on him.

Or, another time, I was feeling distant from God, and went to the Bible planning to do a review of God's character & personality. I assumed that as I gained a clearer view of God, I would appreciate God more and therefore feel closer to him.

And instead, he brought me to Psalms 139 where I read about how well God knows me. He said that he knows where I am, what I'm thinking, even what I'm about to say.

And I thought, "How smart of him to take me to this section in the Bible. It's when we realize how well another person know us, that's when we feel intimate with them." In my relationship with God, it isn't just that I know him. He reminded me that he knows me. That's amazing.

Lastly, I'm glad God is so gracious. I'm glad it's not our performance that gains us acceptance with him. Jesus did for us what we cannot do. He paid for our sin. The day I asked him into my life, he said I was "forgiven" which hasn't changed.

As a result, he welcomes me to always come to him. If you've never begun this kind of relationship with God, look around this site. It will explain how you can.
